Nominally even under the diluted 13th Amendment to the constitution, power is very much controlled by the Center through the arms of the Central Government such as the Governor, Katcheries, District Secretariats, PS’s, Army, Police, judiciary, Central Bank and the political parties like EPDP and government MP’s like Angkajan, who prop up this government unconditionally in return for local power and privileges! They claim that is devolution of power. I say this is a caricature of devolution!
Devolution is devolving power to the people not to bureaucrats or parties linked to the government or even other parties. So power must remain with the people all the time not just one day in 5 years for 5 minutes for casting their votes!
This is how the devolution intentions in the 13th Amendment are systematically defeated through false propaganda by the government among our Sinhala brothers and sisters against the Tamils by portraying that the Tamils are for dividing the country.
It is important to understand that Tamil People + Muslim People + Hill Country People are NOT the same as the LTTE.
This is a lie propagated by the ruling parties. It must be rejected outright.
I have from day 1, rejected the LTTE politics, their demands, their armed struggle, their terroristic methods, their ruthlessness, their murders, their suicide squads, their forced recruitment of school children as soldiers, their killing of civilians, their cyanide and gun culture, their military and political strategy, their fascistic methods, their intransigence etc. in spite of the genuine grievances of Tamil speaking people.
There are several thousands like me who openly defied their politics and branded by them as traitors.
There are hundreds of thousands who did the same but silently for fear of being murdered. History will vindicate us and confirm that we we took the right course of action.
Why most people are not understanding such a clear message?
Many reasons for not understanding.
Many people have been brought up from childhood by parents, community, schools and religious institutions to believe in extreme and exclusive one sided stereotype views, which are not humanistic i.e. not loving and respecting other human beings.
The following things can therefore be an obstacle to understand other people and the real nature of problems:
- Religious beliefs
These are complex things which can only be overcome through genuine education individually and collectively.
- Overcoming all this, is what I call human liberation!
- Our project and aim is nothing but human liberation!
I have also been indoctrinated in this way until I was 15. My processes of liberation from such indoctrination started at the age of 15 and is still going on!
